Visiting Ho Chi Minh City & Directives for Development – Spring Bính Ngọ 2026

On the occasion of the Bính Ngọ 2026 Spring Festival, General Secretary Tô Lâm, accompanied by a Central delegation, visited and worked with the Party Committee, government, and people of Ho Chi Minh City. He extended New Year greetings on behalf of the Party and State to leaders, veteran revolutionaries, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, families of policy beneficiaries, and all citizens of the city. The General Secretary highly appreciated the efforts and achievements of the city’s Party Committee, government, and people.

A key emphasis was placed on the significance of 2026, marking the 50th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City being named after President Ho Chi Minh. General Secretary Tô Lâm urged the city to continue playing its leading role in effectively implementing the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress, streamlining its organizational structure, improving the quality of its cadre, removing bottlenecks, and creating breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, and human resources. He stressed the importance of improving the lives of the people so that everyone can celebrate a peaceful and joyful Tet.

He affirmed that the implementation of the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress over the next 5-10 years is pivotal in achieving the goals for the 100th anniversary of the Party’s founding and laying a solid foundation for the 100th anniversary of the nation’s founding. Ho Chi Minh City, in this process, must continue to lead by example, be a place where the Central government can confidently entrust new, difficult, and large-scale tasks, and serve as a driving force for growth, innovation, and integration nationwide. He expressed confidence in the city’s continued strong development alongside the nation in achieving its goals. During the visit, General Secretary Tô Lâm presented Tet gifts to the city’s Party Committee, government, people, and exemplary families of policy beneficiaries and contributors.

Prior to this, General Secretary Tô Lâm visited researcher Nguyễn Đình Tư, 106 years old, author of over 60 valuable works on the history and geography of Nam Bộ and Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Tư proposed naming two streets Hoàng Sa and Trường Sa along the Nhiêu Lộc – Thị Nghè canal and is the city’s lifelong Ambassador of Reading Culture.

Launch of Innovation & Transformation Movements

Also this morning, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, Chairman of the Central Council for Emulation and Reward, attended the launch of two emulation movements focused on innovation, scientific and technological development, digital transformation, green transformation, and strong private enterprise development, alongside improving the efficiency of state-owned enterprises. This event is considered important for translating the spirit and vision of the 14th Party Congress Resolution into concrete actions, turning policy decisions into reality, as directed by General Secretary Tô Lâm.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính emphasized that the two emulation movements represent a new surge of energy at the start of the new year, encouraging each individual and entity to be more aware, responsible, and committed to the great historical mission of the entire nation. He articulated a vision of “digital spirit, spreading momentum, businesses breaking through, and the country reaching far,” embodying the patriotism, will, determination, self-reliance, and resilience of the Vietnamese people.

The Prime Minister requested that the movements focus on key areas, including breakthroughs in thinking, awareness, and action, identifying science, technology, innovation, green transformation, and digital transformation as the key drivers of growth, tools for improving governance efficiency, national self-reliance, and ensuring national defense and security. He also emphasized the need to build and perfect a synchronous and comprehensive development institution, promptly remove bottlenecks, create a favorable, fair, and transparent investment and business environment, and build a business community oriented towards “5Hs” – Humanization, Digitalization, Greenification, Smartification, and Optimization of resources and benefits.

Homage to President Ho Chi Minh & National Assembly Commitments

To commemorate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam and welcome the Bính Ngọ New Year, Chairman of the National Assembly Trần Thanh Mẫn, along with National Assembly leaders, paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at House 67 within the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex. Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn respectfully offered incense in remembrance of President Ho Chi Minh, the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people, who dedicated his life to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

He recalled that nearly 80 years ago, on May 6, 1946, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the people successfully held the first general election nationwide, electing the first National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn affirmed that, building on the achievements of the past 15 terms, the National Assembly will actively and effectively implement the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress and the tasks assigned in the fields of legislation, supreme supervision, and decision-making on important national issues. The National Assembly will also make the best preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and deputies to the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. The National Assembly will continue to work closely with the Government under the leadership of the Central Party and the Politburo, headed by General Secretary Tô Lâm, to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles and promote national development.
