Visits by Party and State Leaders During Tết Bính Ngọ

During the traditional Tết Bính Ngọ (2024 Lunar New Year), Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính visited and extended Tết greetings to former Presidents Nguyễn Minh Triết and Trương Tấn Giang, and former Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. The Prime Minister expressed deep respect for their significant contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the State, and the nation’s construction and development, noting their valuable insights for the country’s progress. He informed the former leaders about the current socio-economic situation and the Government’s implementation of tasks following the successful 14th Party Congress. The Government aims to achieve economic growth of 10% or higher this year and in subsequent years, contributing to the realization of the nation’s two strategic 100-year goals. The Prime Minister reiterated the consistent policy of the Party and State in prioritizing social security, education, healthcare, and ensuring a thoughtful Tết for the people, particularly the poor, vulnerable, and those facing hardship.

The former leaders expressed joy and optimism regarding the country’s achievements in 2025 and the preceding term, expressing confidence in the Party’s leadership to continue achieving significant progress in the new era.

Following these visits, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính paid tribute at the memorials of former General Secretary Nguyễn Văn Linh, former Chairman of the Council of Ministers Phạm Hùng, former Prime Ministers Võ Văn Kiệt, and Phan Văn Khải. Numerous activities were organized across various localities to care for the people during Tết. Trịnh Văn Quyết, a Politburo member and Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Department, visited Tuyên Quang province, praising the province’s socio-economic development and social welfare efforts, ensuring no one is left behind. He urged local authorities to maintain social order and safety for a joyful and secure Tết.

General Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, a Politburo member and Chief of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, visited Quảng Trị province, extending Tết greetings to local officials and residents. He presented gifts to policy families, contributors, poor households, workers, and those facing difficulties.

Đoàn Minh Huấn, a Politburo member and Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, visited Lai Châu province, commending the local efforts in social security. The province provided over 59,000 gifts and nearly 7,400 houses to border guard officers and soldiers.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vũ Hồng Thanh attended the “Tết Xung Vẩy Xuân Ơn Đảng” (Spring of Gratitude to the Party) program organized by the Quảng Ngãi Provincial Labor Federation, distributing over 7,000 gifts worth over 7.3 billion VND to union members, workers, and laborers. In Lũng Cú, the northernmost point of the country, support was provided to ethnic minority groups, poor households, and vulnerable individuals. This support included not only gifts but also new homes. One resident, previously living in a temporary shelter due to a landslide, received 90 million VND to build a new two-story house with community assistance. He expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “Do thiên tai tôi buồn lắm không bao giờ nghĩ sẽ có nhà mới tết này. Giờ có nơi che mưa chắn lạnh ấm áp rồi. Cảm ơn Đảng, Nhà nước hỗ trợ. Thế này yên tâm lắm.” (I was very sad due to the disaster and never thought I would have a new house for this Tết. Now I have a place to shelter from the rain and cold, it’s warm. Thank you to the Party and State for the support. This gives me peace of mind.)

Another resident, Lầu Mí Thò, also received a new house built with the help of the community and border guards, fulfilling a lifelong dream. He remarked, “được cái nhà mới v lắng rồi mua được cái tivi mới rồi xe tivi thấy đớn nước Việt Nam mình phát triển lắm” (Having a new house, I was able to buy a new TV and motorbike. I see how much Vietnam has developed).

Lũng Cú, a particularly difficult border commune with a poverty and near-poverty rate of 48%, has eliminated temporary and dilapidated houses. These new homes represent not only physical structures but also the care of the Party, State, and the community.

Mobilizing Resources for Social Welfare

Local authorities effectively utilized Party and State policies and mobilized resources from organizations and individuals to support vulnerable populations, ensuring a fulfilling Tết. One resident, Phó Cận, expressed his joy at moving into a new house, stating, “Tết là ấm là vui khi có nhà kiên cố ngô thóc đủ đà. Nhà nước hỗ trợ tiền và bà con họ hàng giúp đỡ xây nhanh lắm. Vào nhà mới tôi không ngủ được. Ăn tết ở đây không còn gì mừng hơn.” (Tết is warm and joyful when you have a solid house and enough food. The State provided financial support, and relatives helped build it quickly. I couldn’t sleep in the new house. There’s nothing more to be happy about than celebrating Tết here.) He plans to use the opportunity to invest in livestock to escape poverty.
