Unitry/GMO Dance-Off: Advancements in Robotic Movement

A dance performance at the exhibition showcased the rapid progress in humanoid robot movement, featuring a robot manufactured by Chinese developer Unitry and programmed by Japanese company GMO. Tommohiro Uchida of GMO explained the significance of this demonstration: "The dance moves show just how far robotic development has come." He noted that a year prior, humanoid robots exhibited stiff and jerky movements, making their integration into real-world scenarios seem improbable. However, recent software updates over the past six to three months have enabled robots to perform a wider range of fluid movements. The dance was specifically chosen to illustrate these enhanced capabilities to exhibition visitors.

Humanoid Robots as a Solution for Declining Labor Forces

Uchida further articulated a broader perspective on the utility of humanoid robots, viewing them as a potential solution to address labor shortages in developed countries. He stated that humanoid robots can help "fill gaps in what he called a declining labor force in developed countries." This suggests a future where humanoid robots are not only capable of complex physical tasks but also contribute to economic stability by compensating for a shrinking human workforce.
