The human impact of the fires is substantial. A volunteer at a relief center described the devastation, stating, “I've been here for the last 4 days processing people who have lost everything. People who don't know what they're going home to. People that have come with not even their medication or a change of nappy for their kids. Like that's the sort of devastation we're seeing.”
