Fanfiction and its Quality
The speaker admits to previously holding a low opinion of fanfiction, viewing it as primarily romance-focused and of questionable quality. However, HPMOR has completely changed her perspective. She emphasizes the story's length (600,000 words) and its overall quality.
Availability and Accessibility
The fanfiction is available for free online, as is typical for Harry Potter fanfiction due to copyright restrictions. The speaker suggests searching for it on Google, mentioning the website "hpmor.com" as a possible source. Plot Overview: An Alternative Universe
The story is set in an alternative Harry Potter universe. The key divergence is that Petunia Dursley marries a science professor from Oxford instead of Vernon Dursley. As a result, Harry grows up in an environment rich with books, science, history, and philosophy. This upbringing makes him exceptionally intelligent and knowledgeable by the time he attends Hogwarts. The speaker notes that this altered background leads to significant changes in the plot and Harry's character development, including his emotional challenges in relating to others.
Recommendation and Avoiding Spoilers
The speaker urges Harry Potter fans to read HPMOR, suggesting they "drop whatever you're doing and download it." She recommends downloading it as an EPUB file for Kindle or reading it online. She strongly advises against reading any spoilers, even chapter titles on the website, to preserve the reading experience.
Call to Action and Engagement
The speaker encourages viewers who enjoy the book to send her a direct message (DM) to discuss it further. She expresses her enthusiasm for "nerding out" about the story with others.
