PostgreSQL Flexible Server now supports Premium SSD v2 geo-backup in preview. Backups are replicated to the paired secondary region, enabling cross-region restore and high resiliency.

5. Database & Developer Tools

Azure AI Search now supports sensitivity label protection during indexing. Previously, data with sensitivity labels was skipped, excluding it from AI agent grounding and RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation). Now, enabling this feature allows indexing labeled data while respecting access controls – ensuring users only access data they are authorized to view. This works across Blob, Data Lake, SharePoint, and Fabric OneLake.

The VS Code MSQL extension received several enhancements, including the ability to create, rename, and drop databases via object explorer, import CSV/text files into SQL tables, backup/restore databases to disk/blob (supporting full, differential, and transaction logs), a query profiler for real-time event monitoring, and the ability to publish database projects directly from the editor (GA). Database object search is also now available.

6. Azure Monitor & Cost Optimization

Azure Monitor Pipelines received updates in preview, enabling data transformation (extract, transform, load) before ingestion. This allows users to shape, aggregate, and filter data, reducing storage costs by only ingesting relevant information. Enhancements include support for mutual TLS (certificate validation of both client and source) and granular control over pipeline execution location within Kubernetes clusters (pod placement and isolation).

7. GitHub Copilot CLI

The GitHub Copilot CLI has reached General Availability (GA). This terminal-native coding agent brings the capabilities of GitHub Copilot (typically found in VS Code) to the command line. It offers autonomous coding via autopilot mode, planning assistance, specialized agents (code reviewer, build/test), and support for various models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google).
